Shadow Season, written by Sigman Shapiro, illustrated by Brenda Erickson

"Coyote is baffled. Where has his great hunting prowess gone? Are the small creatures of the scrublands actually laughing at him? Something is different. If he doesn't discover the cause soon, he will lose his status on top of the food chain. Neither his pride or his belly will allow that to happen. Rabbit shifts in the moonlight and inhales deeply to settle her nerves. She is headed to the far away mesa where her vision quest is to begin. It is a magic place; a place no rabbit has ever been, but she is truly no ordinary rabbit. She sniffs the air one last time and hops off towards the unknown. Together, this unlikely pair, predator and prey, old and young, will confront questions of self worth, courage, passion, sacrifice, and their own mortality in their quest to defeat the mysterious Shadow Creature."

Paper February 10, 2015
By B. Holme
SHADOW SEASON is one of those wonderful books that places the reader in the healthiest of mental spaces while reading it and weeks after its completion. This allegorical story addresses what we all face at one time or another, and that is our own mortality and how each of us copes with that ever present reality. Unlike some books of the same topic, it is easily "digestible". SHADOW SEASON is a complete package with its beautifully scripted words, its exquisite illustrations, and its paper quality.
A tale for the ages (pun intended!)  February 12, 2015
By D. Meade
This is a clever and wise tale told through the eyes of engaging mythological creatures. Sig's love of the outdoors and its wild denizens shines through every page. A thoroughly enjoyable and artfully illustrated read.

My favorite quote is from the Tortoise who reminds us “that our time is finite and that each moment, each breath is a precious gift to be cherished and lived consciously”.

An adult fable that dares to address the issues of mortality and aging in an engaging story about an empathic rabbit, a neurotic coyote, and a mystic, Yoda-like Turtle. Creative, funny, and thoughtful without being either pedantic or predictable.
